Whilst it is undoubtedly true and the basis of our salvation to say "Jesus experienced the full weight of the judgement of God on the cross", I think it goes too far to say that "He was cut off from his Father" - bearing wrath, yet sustained by the love of His Father is, I suggest, closer to the truth. We cannot separate the Father and Son even in the hour of rejection.
