The two questions I get asked most when I say what my thesis about are:
- was Bonhoeffer a martyr?
and
I always have difficulty offering coherent answers to either. BUT: here are two works of art that confirm an answer in the affirmative to both.
One in a Shropshire church entitled "King of Martyrs"; the other, Bonhoeffer's statue on Westminster Abbey.

Why does Bonoeffer's statue confirm him as a martyr? Is it the frilly robe?
It doesn't of course.
I actually think the Bonhoeffer statues is hideous.
I guess you'll be wanting a Schleiermacher one.
But the King of the Hellenes was not Greek, George I of Great Britain was not British, etc.
I am inclined to think that dear B would be far more appalled at the statue than even being lauded as a martyr.
