Good tips Michael. If only the stuff I was writing was more intersting I would write it on my blog - but its a literature review of the effect of copyright legislation on library services to the vision impaired... Interesting only to library geeks...!
If it was more like yours, about a fascinating topic like christian martyrdom and identity...
However, I will try the "letter to a friend" approach...
thanks
Yeah, I find that sleep deprivation is absolutely fatal for one's writing ability.
Another tip I'd suggest is falling in love - my prose becomes far less prosaic when I have a muse.
Hmmm... I've noticed a clearness entering into your writing lately DC. Anyone aMusing you?
Not to my knowledge :)
Actually, the clarity is probably a sign that I'm not currently "amused". If my writing starts to become more abstract and flowery, you'll know why.
Can falling in love really constitute a tip? I would venture to add that falling in love produces more, but not better, writing...
You might be right in that respect, although I'd suggest that this depends on what type of writing you are trying to produce. All the same, it is a cure to writer's block, since you are producing something rather than nothing.
