Martyrdom, discipleship and the triplex munus

I wrote something a while back on this here.

As Christ's body, the church continues or extends his work - so the prophetic/priestly/kingly classification is still useful. Though, it must be said, they need careful exposition in terms of mission.

It helped me to learn about the correspondence between these and the contents of the Ark.

Prophet - Word - commandments

Priest - sacrament - manna

King - discipline/government - Aaron's rod

Prophet: God takes the initiative and makes the command

Priest: Martyrdom is the saints becoming broken bread like our Master, in obedient faith. The body follows the head in making a shameful public spectacle of the powers-that-be (Colossians 2:15; 1 Corinthians 4:9; Hebrews 10:33).

King: Whether we live or die, a new community develops around faithful witness, but especially when we die. Patient faith is rewarded with dominion.

The Christian church is God’s tool of dominion. The church as Christ's body needs to faithfully exercise all three, administering the contents of the open Ark.

Thanks mike. Yep, both of you. It's an important point, that we don't just truck in any old Jesus that we want. That said, prophet priest and king, and even humiliation and exaltation are still roomy enough concepts to produce a variety of christologies with a resultant variety of practices.
Even if we want to say that they are filled out as old testament concepts, the way Bully fills them out, and the way others fill them out is probably going to be different.
Sorry if this comes across argumentative, I don't mean to be.
