well done Michael. Nice piece. I had someone ask me just last week about 'cruel Calvinism' - I'll be sure to point him to this. Look forward to the letters page.

Thanks for the link and the article. I am curious though as to why you described Calvin's influence as waning when TIME recently listed Calvinism as one of the top ten most influential ideas right now.
Interesting point. The headline wasn't mine of course! Robinson's article was written before the resurgent New Calvinism (so-called). Not much of that in Oz, though.
I thought you might be interested in learning about OUR Jewish traditions, one which has embraced the real Christ of the gospel, the Law and the prophets.
If this doesn't interest you, I apologize in advance.

I just wanted to let you and the scholarly world that there have always been more than one type of Judaism in the world at any one time. Some forms of the faith had to learn to hide their beliefs in order to survive and perpetuate themselves.
Fascinating article. Tangentially I must admit, though, that Calvin's published political views tended to strike me as more instrumental than programmatic in character.
Thanks for this piece. the Presys had a Calvin conference earlier in the year. I was left a bit cold by it, but it made me want to read him again. Maybe I need to get thee into Moore College for Calvin@500 By the way I caught you today at QTC in Brisbane. 10/10 for speaking under trying circumstances.

BTW, were it not for being suddenly struck by a fever, I was planning to attend AACC.
