We had Diarmaid MacCulloch give a special lecture at Cambridge this week - 'Calvin: Fifth Latin Doctor of the Church?'
He argued strongly that Calvin's vision was for a catholic Christianity. In the end, MacCulloch suggested that Calvin was so rooted in the Fathers, that a case could be made that there were only two Latin Fathers - Augustine and Calvin.
Obviously the lecture was a bit of a 'senior common room' play with history and ruminate thing.... but it certainly backs up your argument that when we try to read scripture 'nuda' rather than 'sola' we depart radically from Reformation Christianity.

Enjoyed the sola scriptura article - well put.
