Well, this is the occassion of much brow-furrowing by the scholars: was it the beer that was hot, or the man?
Perhaps the warning was heeded and this explains why it was so hard to find a cold beer in English pubs for many years!(From the third paragraph it seems that he was hot and the beer was cold).
