In a previous job I worked with a secretary who lived and worked in the Eastern Suburbs. Talking to her, you got the impression that if you ventured west of Glebe or north of the Harbour, you'd fall off the ends of the earth.
Having watched all the Sydney clips that you've posted, it appears that Sydney's troubadours suffered the same world view. Yes, the CBD/Harbour Bridge/Opera House, Kings Cross/ Darlinghurst/ Paddington, Bondi & Newtown (well, at least according to the Chaser boys, that's where all of The Whitlams songs are set)are all important parts of Sydney. But where's the Northern Beaches, The Shire, Auburn, Rooty Hill, Campbelltown or the Hills District? Surely the people there are just as much part of Sydney and deserving of being written about?

Spooky how the song talks (? sings maybe?) about the sun rising but shows pictures of the sun setting.

Well, no, I think not: those places could on the whole be anywhere. The inner city could only be where it is.
I think also it is just a fact of life that musicians tend to live in the inner city...
